Sugar and alcohol lower the freezing point of a drink. That keeps the ice crystals small and loose so the machine can churn them into slush. With too little sugar the water freezes into hard ice. With too much sugar or alcohol, it barely freezes.

The app adds up the sugar grams and alcohol in each ingredient, divides by the total volume, and compares the result with Ninja's guidance: at least 4% sugar for any slush, and 2.8–16% ABV for the Spiked Slush preset. Mixes with 6–16% sugar give the best texture.

The ingredient values are typical label numbers. Brands vary a lot, so for exact results pick + Add brand… on an ingredient and enter the numbers from its label. The app remembers each brand for next time.
